WGLN I (1999-2004)
Mission:
The Wallenberg Global Learning Network is an international collaboration of university communities in Sweden, at Stanford University, and in Germany that involves faculty committed to improving the teaching and learning process through the use of information and communication technology (ICT.) This effort is distinguished from other efforts to improve student learning by its goal of facilitating joint projects among faculty content experts (the faculty teaching university courses), technology experts (faculty and researchers developing new ICT for the advanced resource classrooms of the future), and faculty experts in the learning sciences studying how people learn and its implications for improving instructional strategies and creating more effective learning environments.

The WGLN’s mission is to act as a catalyst, through its targeted grants program, in developing and supporting these faculty collaborations through a variety of innovative projects at the nexus of these interactions and across disciplinary fields of study. The primary goals of the Wallenberg Global Learning Network (WGLN) are to help students achieve better learning outcomes, supporting faculty investigators in producing new knowledge for best learning practices, and supporting the development of pedagogic and technical solutions suitable for innovative use in a variety of university and school settings. The Network also supports a program of project evaluation and dissemination of project results to faculty and universities beyond the WGLN member institutions.

Established in 1999 by the founders (Stanford University and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation) to develop collaborative forms of learning with the aid of information and communication technologies (ICT), the Wallenberg Global Learning Network (WGLN) is currently comprised of three members: The Stanford Center for Innovations in Learning (SCIL), USA, the Swedish Learning Lab (SweLL), and the Learning Lab of Lower Saxony (L3S), Germany. The Swedish Learning Lab consists of three educational and research institutions: Uppsala University (UU), the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) , and Karolinska Institute (KI). The Learning Lab of Lower Saxony coordinates projects at the University of Hannover, the University of Braunschweig, and the Braunschweig School of Arts.
